My favorite subject in math ( power paragraph)

My favorite subject in school is math. I prefer math because I understand it better. I like it best because I don’t have to memorize lots of stuff as I would in other classes.  I use it in everyday life. To me there is no escaping math it’s always there and always will be. Possibilities for learning math are endless because there are endless numbers and endless things to do with them. I like how in math I can learn different things using numbers I learned when I was younger. Math is a major subject along with Ela, Social Studies, and Science.  Math is also a challenge because I sometimes get two steps mixed up or I forget about how to solve a particular problem. That’s why I love math.

What would school be without a discipline code or rules

School would be very different if there were no rules or discipline code.  Children would be able to do whatever they want which would lead to disaster.  Some rules are that you have to attend school regularly and punctually and properly maintain textbooks and other equipment. Without this rule kids would be able to go to school whenever they want and could treat school equipment badly.  Schools also have disciplinary responses. One of them would be Removal from a classroom by a teacher. This means that a student who engages in inappropriate behavior or interfers a class a teacher is allowed to remove them. Another one would be Principals suspension is that the principal has the authority to suspend a student for 1-5 days when a student’s behavior presents danger or injuries to other students. That’s why schools have rules.

Albert Einstien

a Jewish white male born in March 14 1879 in Germany.  He is most known to be a peaceful man even though he signed a letter urging the invention of the atomic bomb. He did receive the Nobel Prize in physics in 1921. He said the theory of relativity is not constant and neither is weight or mass. He believed moving at high speeds all other things get compressed; only the speed of light remains the same. That happens because Einstein said energy is equal to mass times the speed of light squared, or E = mc2 (which means energy equal mass times the velocity of light squared).  Einstein thought “imagination is more important than knowledge”. In my opinion this is a very dangerous man.

Title: A Long Way from Chicago
Author: Richard Peck
Date Finished: September 19, 2011                                      Genre: Fiction
Number of pages: 148                                               Number of stars:  1/2

What is the main setting of the novel?
The novel takes place in the Country right in a town where the railroad tracks cut in two.

Describe the main characters.  Who is the protagonist? Who is the antagonist?
Mary Alice is the young sister, nice, and has a good hear. Joey is the older brother, he is very loyal to his family, and Grandma Dowdel who is old but funny. She is a different kind of grandmother because she doesn’t like gossip about her, and she loves to black mail people. The protagonist changes a lot in the story, one of them is Eiffie Wilcox and the other one is the Cowgill’s brothers. The antagonists are Mary Alice, her brother Joey and grandma Dowdel.

What is the main conflict of the novel? How is the problem resolved? Explain.
The main conflict changes during the visits of the protagonists. One of them happens when the Cowgill brothers blow up grandma’s mail box. The other conflict happens when the sheriffs accused grandma of stealing their boat, and giving food to the hungry without a permit. Problem resolved by grandma finding out that the Cowgill’s brothers did it and tells their parents.

From what point of view is the story told?
The story is told by Joey’s point of view.

Choose one of the following elements and describe how the author implements it into the novel: irony, foreshadowing, suspense or symbolism.
I chose suspense because I waited eagerly for the characters next movie.

Describe each part of the plot in detail.

Exposition:
The background of the story shows how Mary Alice and Joey dread going to their grandmother’s house. They rather stay in Chicago with their parents and friends.

Rising Action:
A part of the rising action is when everyone thinks Shotgun Cheatman moved after his death but ends up being the cat that moved the corps.

Climax:
The climax of the story is when grandma threats the bank to give Effie’s house back free of charge, and still convince the banker to give two dollars to Mary Alice, and two for Joey.

Falling Action:
Most of the falling action happens when grandma has a showdown with Mrs. Weidenback about whose family has the most talent and the country’s oldest living citizen.

Resolution:
Joey and Mary Alice grow old. Joey joins the Army during the World War II and during his trip by train he passes through grandma’s town and she waves at him.

Describe one theme of the novel in detail.
My favorite theme of the novel is doing the right thing. Grandma helps a person even though she was not her friend.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend this book to a friend, because it’s funny, thought me how to be a good person and do the right thing.

How did farming and other agriculture play a large role in civilization?

How did farming and other agriculture play a large role in the formation of civilization?
Farming was an advancement for the first people. The reason it was because many large animals were dying. The people used these animals for food, tools and clothes. The people were forced to adapt to new conditions, such as small fish, nuts, grains, and small fish. Then later on, people in Central America learned to grow crops such as corn, beans, and squash. This helped them because they had chooses of food and they were able to stay where they were. They stayed in one place and began villages there. As time passed and farming improved people produced more food which could feed more and led to a larger population.

9/11 hero poem

My best friend’s father was a hero.
I’ve never seen him walk.
And never heard him talk.
The stories about him make me wonder whether or not there are bigger heroes.
One morning he left, dressed in suit and heading towards the car.
He swerved here and there until he got to his job.
Where he worked hard to get in and harder to get people out.
He never came home after that big day.
Although my friend and I suffered greatly we were both proud to be American and proud of those heroes that gave their lives for us.

report on : Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene happened in August 2011.I t was formed on August 20 2011. The winds began at 120 mph (195 km/h). The mayor went on the news several times telling people to "prepare for the worst and hope for the best". Hurricane Irene began incresising to a category 3 storm, but later decreased to category 1.The damage was so large it took about $10.1 billion. At least 55 people have died in the storm, most of them when trees crashed through roofs or onto cars. One death was reported in Connecticut, Maryland and Florida, five in North Carolina and three in Virginia. 10, 000 airline flights have been cancelled due to the storm. People were surprised that high flood waters came to the states where evacuations had not been made. This was the worst hurricane in New York.

Irene affected New York shutting down the transit system which means no trains or buses were working. My family and I prepared for the hurricane by buying lots of bottled water, making a go bag, and buying canned foods. The hurricane affected business such as small shops, restaurants, hospitals, summer camps and many Broadway shows. New York City lost a lot of money with Irene. In my neiborhood we got a few trees falling on cars and blocking roads.

During the storm my family and I had to stay home for three days. I couldn't go to my summer camp, or go to the park, and I couldn't play at my friend’s house. I was very bored at home because there was nothing to do. Since my TV was not working the only thing for me to do was read. Even though I was bored it was good that I stayed home so I could catch up on my summer reading.

At the end it wasn’t how they predicted, and we went by the mayor's advice and prepared for the worst and hope for the best. New York was lucky that they weren’t hit as hard as other states.
